Children’s Books about Colors

Is your child learning about colors? From crayons that quit to white mice and jars of paint, check out these children’s books about colors!

Children's Books about ColorsHe’ll think this is cheesy, I thought. I had just borrowed Press Here by Herve Tullet from the library and began reading it with my toddler. The book is all about interaction, from shaking the red, yellow, and blue dots off the page to blowing them away.

But I was surprised—not only did he press here and there, he shook and blew those dots away.

Books are like that, which is why I love sharing my favorites with you, including those about colors.

Learning about colors and telling them apart is one of those things kids pick up on their own. I don’t remember when my kids learned them, but I made sure to talk about them often. For instance, I’d say, “Here’s your blue sippy cup” or “Do you like your orange shoes?” Including colors in everyday conversation helped them recognize and identify them.

And as usual, we read children’s books about colors as well. Many are classics that have been around for decades, while others are more recent stories. These are my favorites—I hope you find a few selections to read with your little one:
