When I was in lower elementary school, I didn’t have classes geared towards health and safety in schools. By the time I reached high school, we had a ‘nutrition’ class which was a joke no one took seriously.
Clearly, health and safety curriculum wasn’t a priority back in my day.
Organizations like Health World Education is making it their mission to change that. They offer easy online access to health and safety education for both classroom and homeschool educators.
Because, let’s face it: do your kids know best health practices such as ways to stay healthy and active? What about safety procedures?
With Health World Education, you can eliminate the time-consuming task of compiling lesson plans. Everything you need for your lesson plan is included in the courses.
Subjects include general health, human growth and development, nutrition, safety and bullying and conflict resolution.
I recently reviewed one of their courses, “Safety Smart® about Fire” for lower elementary students. The course included a video to watch with your students. You can also download 15-20 activity sheets your students can fill out either on a computer or print out and fill in with a pen.
And the sheets tie in with the video and discussion prompts. For instance, the video highlighted the three elements needed to start a fire. You can then use the accompanying worksheet to further discuss that top. The activities are conducive for both classroom work as well as take home and work with their parents. The course even includes a certificate of completion and several useful checklists.
Health World Education courses integrate learning at school or at home with digital resources. The PDFs are easy to print and customize, and your students can complete the assignments on a computer or on a print out.
With back to school approaching, more teachers, homeschooling parents, principals and school boards can implement health and safety in schools.
Your turn: Does your child’s school include curriculum on health and safety? Let me know in the comments!
