Is your child ready to count and learn about numbers? Books are a great way to start! Check out these children’s books about numbers to read together.
Once I had gotten my then-two-year-old twins reading books about letters and the alphabet, the next thing to do was to introduce them to numbers. They recognized letters pretty well, but would they do the same with numbers?
Sure, they recited “one, two, three” (or some cute variation of it), but I wanted them to get a hang of numbers.
As usual, I turned to children’s books about numbers — fun ones with the simple purpose of introducing numbers and counting along.
Ten, Night, Eight was a hand-me-down book from my cousin, and five kids later (hers plus mine), it quickly became a family favorite. Textured monkey heads make Eight Silly Monkeys a fun read, as the monkeys count down from eight to one. One Is a Snail, Ten Is a Crab counts animal feet all the way to 100.
These also include children’s books about numbers past 10. Because at some point, kids will recite one to ten easily. They may even get the concept of number values up to 10. That’s when you can start challenging them to count even more, and these books will help you do just that.
