Being a good friend to others is an important skill children need to learn. Read these 23 children’s books about being a good friend to remind your kids the values of being kind to others.
At school drop off the other week, I overheard a conversation between two moms. The first was praising the other one’s daughter for having been a good friend to her son. My son says the same about this little girl—how she helped him out in the classroom and “filled his bucket.” She’s popular among the kids because she’s warm, kind and a good friend.
Think back to your own childhood friendships. Maybe you befriended someone similar. Maybe you were that little girl. Or maybe you unfortunately saw others who weren’t kind at all.
I grew up with the whole spectrum, and I don’t doubt my son will, too. While I’d love for him to only have good friends, he’ll still witness tough friendships as well.
One of the themes in my son’s pre-kindergarten class is being a good friend. His teacher discusses being kind and filling others’ “buckets.” Whether you’re being mean and dipping into buckets.
Bringing this lesson home, I gathered a list of children’s books about being a good friend. Learning how to treat others kindly and navigating childhood friendships can be a challenge. I wanted to remind my kids the value of being a good friend to others.
